In 1999, the then 19-year-old freshman at Princeton University died of cardiac arrest during a pickup basketball game at the school. The cause of death was arrhythmia - a heart problem with near-undetectable symptoms. Since 2003, the community has held an annual Matt Weiner Swim-a-thon at the Deer Brook Swim & Tennis Club.
